AlgorithmicKitchen Catalonian Referedum

November 16, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm

AlgoKitchen will look this week into the Catalonian Referendum of the 1st of October. A new chapter in European digital civil rights that has left a mark.

The referendum was based on a Universal Digital Census, created adhoc, that was heavily censored during election day. What happened that day?  How did things come to  be that way? How do you build a web application when you know that a government will retaliate? How do you put a massive database of citizens online without risking turning everybody into a dissident? Are some of the questions that will be on the table and together with our special guest Xavi Ferrer and performing a technical analysis of the digital census we will try to give some answers.

Our special guest Xavi Ferrer, one of the founders of Barcelona en Comú and member of the city council will join us live during the session from Barcelona.
AlgoKitchen is an interest group in the technopolitics of big data. Our emphasis is in creating humane connections and sharing personal stories about how we are affected by big data and what self-defense strategies we develop. Everybody is welcome, you don’t need to be an expert.

Please RSVP with Susana at susana(AT)balkontactics(DOT)nl if you plan to come.
