Weekly programming course for beginners – 6 Saturdays starting 2nd November –
Learning to program a computer can be an extremely rewarding and creative activity, like learning to play an instrument or learning to draw. It can be used to build a website, to make a game, or to understand the digital world from a technical point of view and the best part is that anyone can do it!
It is a sad fact that almost all programming communities are composed of mostly white & Asian, hetero, highly educated men. This makes it harder for people with other views to join in and keep using the technology as they see fit.
We are trying to help this to change by organizing a course that is aimed at absolute beginners and where everyone is safe and welcome to ask and learn.
We will focus on building a website and learning about the basic tools&tricks that programmers use. And we’re going to make sure that we have fun while we do it.
Why join this workshop?
You might have your own reasons, but in case not, the following might help you jump in.
you know nothing about programming and want to learn about it
you feel a bit uneasy not knowing how computers and the internet work
you know how to use a computer, but feel uncomfortable when you need to do something new
you are curious about what “programmers” actually do
you’re wondering if “coding” is for you (as a future job)
you think that coding can make your computer related tasks easier (it can)
many, many more
What to expect?
During 6 sessions we will provide 10 people a gentle introduction to programming. We are aiming to build a website and we will be inspired by https://learn.freecodecamp.org/. You will get the most out of this course if you come to all the sessions.
During each session, we will discuss some core concepts and then ask everyone to apply their understanding practically by coding. Issues and questions will be handled as soon as they arise. We understand that learning should not be hierarchical and we facilitate peer learning groups since we believe in lifelong learning, accessible education, and digital inclusion.
As we get closer to the course start date, you will get more details about what to expect and how to prepare.
When?
Every Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30, starting on the 2nd of November until the 7th of December.[both inclusive]
We don’t want money to be a barrier for anyone that is willing to learn coding!
At the end of the course, you are welcome to make a donation based on what you think it was worth!
Registration (closed)
Please fill in the following form if you want to follow this training course.
We will select 10 participants. Registration is open since 15-October to 25-October.
After the registration deadline, we will make a selection of 10 participants that fit the purpose of the course the best. We wish we could have more people, but there’s only 1 facilitator and we want to be able to offer a high-quality learning process to all attendees. If you’re not selected, no worries, we’ll keep you in mind when we organize the next workshop.
We care for your privacy: once the selection for the course is finished, we will delete the forms and its content.
